I am currently director of Alchemy Arts and a practicing artist and illustrator. Both aspects of my practice inform each other being based on community, tradition, folk art and myth. Theatre, parades and carnivals are central thematically and as a medium in my work.
Alchemy Arts is a not for profit unincorporated association which programmes and delivers innovate, engaging and accessible art projects and events which bring practicing artists together with community groups. The projects and events I direct employ art, music, drama and dance to inform and engage diverse audiences in both contemporary and traditional arts. Alchemy Arts has been featured in the Guardian books craft book “Making Stuff” and has published a book on recycled fashion projects titled “Alchemy Arts: recycling is chic.”
Alchemy arts will be hosting a large kite making celebration at Juniper Green. We have also been working with pupils at Juniper Green Primary school to create beautiful Japanese paper banners, which will be decorating the event. With the participation of the community we aim to fly 101 kites in the park on the day.

Recycled Asian Kites
The traditional Asian kites are powerful and beautifully ephemeral in design. Closely evocative of leaves, insects and birds it is obvious that the perfect designs for flight were drawn straight from nature.
The Alchemy Arts recycled kites take this ancient tradition into the urban setting. Scrap materials and silk paints will be provided but you are invited to bring broken brollies, scrap fabric and ribbons to personalize your new and ancient wings.
The Alchemy Arts eco-warrior kite is featured in "Making Stuff" published by Guardian books.
Alchemy arts have made their traditional Asian kites with communities at arts events across Scotland as well as in Madrid, Las Palmas and Caceres.
In June 2012 Alchemy Arts have been asked to make kites with young people in Edinburgh to feature in a film which will be screened as part of the opening act for the prestigious visit of his Holiness the Dali Lama.
