The date of the Scottish elections is on Thursday May 5th.
The community councils of Balerno, Currie and Juniper Green have been preparing to hold a hustings for the Holyrood Elections in the Edinburgh Pentland Constituency for a number of weeks. The three CCs are grateful to the Currie and Balerno News for offering to cover the costs of this event.
We have invited the four named candidates for this constituency to attend a hustings
Simon James Clark, Scottish Liberal Democrats
Ricky Henderson, Scottish Labour Party
Gordon MacDonald, Scottish National Party (SNP)
David William McLetchie, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party
When? On Tuesday 3rd May 2011, starting at 7.30pm promptly.
Where? Juniper Green Parish Church on the Lanark Road.
To reflect the voting arrangements in Scottish Elections we have also invited two list candidates to join the panel to give you as broad a political spectrum as possible. We are pleased to announce the lead list candidate for the Scottish Green Party, Alison Johnstone, and for the Scottish Socialist Party - Independent Socialist Scotland, Colin Fox, have both accepted the invitation to attend.
The format of the evening is that each constituency candidate will be given a short time to state their personal and/or party manifestos and the list candidates will introduce themselves in a less formal way. This will be followed by a question time to all six candidates. The audience will have the chance to ask the panel questions which will have been selected by a committee drawn from the 3 CCs of Balerno, Currie and Juniper Green. You can set and ask a question by picking up a question sheet from a number of local venues from April 18: watch out for posters in the local shops.
These questions will be collected in the days running up to the event and chosen immediately prior to the hustings itself so no candidate will have notice of any of the questions in advance. You should set your question by the end of April.
This is your chance to ask the candidates about issues of concern to you including Education, Health, Planning, Transport, Environment, Law and Order, Taxation, Employment and what else?
Alternatively, you can submit a question simply by emailing to:
stating your question, your name and contact telephone number. If your question is chosen you will be contacted on the evening of May 2nd to check you will be there to ask your question in person.
Hope to see you at the event.
